Sharp-tailed grouse (Tympanuchus phasianellus caurus) lek location mapping and monitoring program 2014-2015

After a successful monitoring season in 2015, the sharp-tailed grouse program continues in 2016.  It is a volunteer-run project that aims to:

 - revisit, map and monitor known and historical lek locations

 - locate new leks in the region

 - observe and record number, sex composition and behaviours of birds at each lek

Thanks to Bird Studies Canada, Northern Lights College, and Hemmera for their continued support of this project.  Help us out by contacting Inge-Jean Hansen or Mark Phinney .  Click here to see the project poster.

201 Birding Trail

The club is working on improving an existing rough trail near the Alberta border.  This trail provides one of the best opportunities in the area for seeing a variety of warblers, including some provincial specialties such as the Canada Warbler and Black-throated Green Warbler.
Directions and birding details of this trail are featured in Russell and Richard Cannings' recent book, Birdfinding in British Columbia.
We are currently applying for grants for signage and bridge building.  A call for volunteers will be posted this summer.
